Pap Smears
Pap Smears
Cervical screening included in women's wellness visits.
A simple screening test for cervical cancer and other abnormalities of the cervix and vagina, with results back from the laboratory within about a week.
What happens
A speculum is gently inserted and a sample is collected by brushing the cervix. The sample goes to the laboratory and the whole procedure takes only a few minutes.
Is it painful?
No — the procedure should not be painful when performed by trained professionals. A little discomfort can be expected, but not pain. Tell us if you are tense and we will slow down.
Who should have one
Any female between the ages of 21 and 65, and any female who has given birth — especially in the past 6 weeks or so — irrespective of age.
Good to know
